To find an exhibition based on unreal images where a winter scene almost always appears is, at the very least, a total irreverence in the midst of the agitation of the Havana heat. The creator of these “absurd” landscapes is Frank Martínez (Havana, 1972) who –since the XIII Havana Biennial– develops this series of enormous charcoal drawings where palm trees and baseballs have been stuck in the middle of the most inhospitable and icy weather. All this could seem disconnected with the surrounding reality; but, although Hypothermia becomes a universe where logic is subverted and opposing space-time realities overlap, its inspiration is actually born from experiential experiences deposited in the collective historical memory.
